The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any significant awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor to include additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
